The Scout highlights the standout statistics, trends and lessons from 2024/25 Fantasy Premier League.

The success of forwards in Fantasy last season suggests many managers will be looking to start with a 3-4-3 formation in the campaign ahead.

As many as SIX of the 11 top-scoring players in 2024/25 were forwards, with the other five listed as midfielders.

As the table below shows, there were 12 players who produced 170+ points last season - six were midfielders and the other six were forwards.

This is in stark contrast to the 2023/24 campaign, when only TWO of the 12 top-scoring players were forwards - Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins and Manchester City's Erling Haaland - and managers generally prioritised midfielders with a 3-5-2 formation instead.

Although Watkins and Haaland were again among the top-scoring players in Fantasy, they both endured somewhat disappointing campaigns by their own high standards.

Watkins' 186 points was some way behind his career-high 228 points from 2023/24, while Haaland's 181 points did little to justify his record-breaking £15.0m price tag. That total was a huge 91 points behind his best-ever score of 272, set in his debut season in 2022/23.

Whereas Haaland is expected to drop in price for 2025/26 Fantasy, the same cannot be said for Newcastle United's Alexander Isak, Nottingham Forest's Chris Wood, Brentford's Yoane Wissa and Manchester United's summer signing from Wolverhampton Wanderers, Matheus Cunha.

All four recorded their best Fantasy seasons in 2024/25 and will surely earn a rise in cost next time around.

Indeed, Isak and Wood were among only five players to pass the 200-point mark last season, behind midfield trio Mohamed Salah (344 points), Bryan Mbeumo (236 points) and Cole Palmer (214 points).

Top-scoring forwards, 2024/25
Player 2024/25 pts Career-high season pts
Isak 211 211
Wood 200 200
Watkins 186 228
Wissa 185 185
Haaland 181 272
Cunha 178 178

A further comparison with Watkins also indicates both Joao Pedro and Omar Marmoush will have bigger says in Fantasy next season.

Watkins averaged 4.9 points per match (ppm) on his way to finishing as the third top-scoring forward last season on 186 points.

Joao Pedro, meanwhile, averaged 4.7ppm for Brighton & Hove Albion, with his points per start being slightly higher, at 4.9.

Similarly, Marmoush averaged 4.6ppm after arriving at Man City midway through the campaign, and the Egyptian delivered 5.1ppm when named in their starting XI.
